![]() ![]() You’ve never read a series ender like Brothersong, I can promise you that.īrothersong is Carter’s story. ![]() Brothersong, the conclusion to this super gay, heartbreaking and wonderful series, was the culmination of all those amazing elements into one 500 page novel. Although this book was angsty as all hell, there was a lot of heart and romance to it, and this little queer fell in love with Klune’s books from there on out.įrom the amazingly realistic characters, to the heartbreaking plotlines, to the discussions around forgiveness, accepting oneself and the importance of family - both blood and found - that these books facilitate, the Green Creek series is truly something special. ![]() This novel was like a revelation to me, as, for the first time ever, I was reading about queer characters in paranormal fiction akin to Twilight. The first TJ Klune novel I had ever read was Wolfsong, back in 2017. ![]()

His brain-fuzz is lingering, even after the wolf Lupa told him he is a demigod and trained him to fight. ![]() ![]() When he awoke after his long sleep, he didn't know much more than his name. ![]() ![]() ![]() We knew how to serve tea and arrange flowers and sit quietly on our flat wide feet for hours, saying absolutely nothing of substance at all. Most of us on the boat were accomplished, and were sure we would make good wives. The book begins with the guarded optimism of the brides-to-be venturing toward their linked but disparate fates: Combining epic sweep with telling detail, she recovers these women’s sacrifices, their American lives, and the memories they left behind in a narrative that is wistful, elegant, and, in the end, perhaps deliberately unsatisfying. ![]() Otsuka writes in the unusual first-person plural, interspersed with apparent quotations from historical and autobiographical sources. But, to my surprise, they were very interestingly contoured at the beginning but that was the peak. I mean, if we talk about a mighty kingdom that extended its boundaries by conquering other kingdoms, at least give me a damn sketch if you can’t pull off a whole map.Īnd maybe I was willing to close an eye at the weak world if the characters were consistent. ![]() There are some vague terms thrown at us on various occasions, but apart from that I have no idea how this world is supposed to look like. And the beginning was very promising.įirst of all, there is basically no world-building. I want to put into words what I felt after giving The Shadows Between Us a shot. It was truly a lot of fun to read this classic story with all the interactive elements it had to offer. There’s even an interactive element where readers can make Dorothy click her silver shoes together to take her back home. The Cowardly Lion has to be one of my favorite character renderings from the book, and the full page of him drinking from a dish to gain courage (while still wearing his Oz spectacles, mind you) is absolutely delightful. They provide a different look at the world, quite similar to Luna and her Spectrespecs. I won’t give everything away, but one of my favorite aspects of the book is the removable Oz spectacles that you can wear along with Dorothy and her friends as they enter the Emerald City. MinaLima has really outdone itself with this edition you can tell that Lima and Mina put a lot of effort into making these illustrations just as magical and engaging as the story itself. Merit has a love/hate relationship with her sister. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her-until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan.
